When staff members of a British soccer team found a random hamburger tied to a box with a GoPro on erotice romance novel for a beginnerit in the middle of a field, they did what anyone would do and tried to figure out how the hell it got there.
The entire adventure is a delight, which you can read via live updates posted to the Twitter account of Colchester United FC (located in Colchester, England). It has spawned memes aplenty and, lo and behold, even some answers.

The team was absolutely mystified as to how the hamburger contraption, complete with parachute, had come to land in a field at their compound.
But the story gets even weirder. While the team was puzzling over the mysterious package, they received a call from a young man claiming responsibility for the flying burger box. It turns out the whole thing was a project by popular YouTuber named Tom Stanniland aka "Killem." He called the club to tell them the surprise package from heaven was his.
A GPS tracking device attached to the box had helped Stanniland track the burger to its location at CUFC's facility, and he let the team know he was making the three-hour-plus drive south from Sheffield to pick it up.
Once he arrived, he gave the team a full explanation of how they came to find a random burger in the middle of their field.

Turns out Stanniland had attached his contraption to a weather ballon so he could send the entire thing -- burger included (it's a Big Mac, by the way) -- 24 miles up to reach space. And, damn, it did go pretty high. The club even shared a few clips of the burger's journey.

And what did young Tom do when he was reunited with his spaceburger? You're damn right he ate it.

Topping off all the fun is the fact that Tom aka Killem was creating a video of the entire adventure from his end. It's a pretty fun watch and fills in the gaps of CUFC's story. And, yes, that's an impressive looking spaceburger.
Of course, in 2019, it's not unfair to wonder if the whole thing was staged, but given Tom's video and the inclusion of a League Two soccer squad, it all seems pretty damn authentic.
And, hey, a hamburger proved once again that the world isn't flat, so we're all the better for it.
