The island of Dominica was completely devastated by the storm. Puerto Rico was hit by "catastrophic" flooding, as the National Weather Service put it, and its capital could be without power for four to six months.

Hurricane Maria was a Category 5 storm when it slammed into Dominica, an island of around 74,000 people. The first aerial video of the aftermath of the storm shows an island hurting from 165 mph winds that blew the roof off the prime minister's house.
