Game of Thronesfans,Peggy Markoff we have outdone ourselves.
A new fan theory says that Jon and Daenerys, fresh from consummating their tepid love, may actually be not only aunt and nephew, but brother and sister.
SEE ALSO: The best solution on 'Game of Thrones' is for Daenerys to adopt Jon SnowNow before you go gag and spit up your coffee, let's check ourselves. This is the show where fraternal twins have been in a decades-long committed relationship with three children. We don't get to pretend we have morals now.
So, how the heck is Daenerys Jon's sister? For starters, hawk-eyed ASoIaF readers noticed that Dany recalls a lemon tree from her early childhood. Lemon trees are far more fitting of the climate in Dorne, where Jon was born to Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.
This theory in no way accounts for the way Viserys talks to Dany or about Rhaegar and their lineage. He even goes so far as to suggest Dany and Rhaegar could have been married, because Targaryens love their incest...but even they wouldn't knowingly wed a father and daughter, albeit to hide the Stark affair.
Another bit of evidence cited by DigitalSpy is Ned Stark's sympathy toward Daenerys when Robert Baratheon wants to have her killed. Was Ned protecting the woman he knew to be Jon's sister? Or was he, you know, being Ned Stark, a slave to his own habitual kindness and compassion?
From someecards:
If this Thronestheory is true, it means that Jon Snow was sent to the Stark side of the family (his mother was Lyanna Stark) and Dany was sent to the Targaryen side. Much like twin sisters Hallie Parker and Annie James were raised by different sides of the family in the classic 1998 film, The Parent Trap.
Makes you think.
There's also the Vultureinterview where Alfie Allen recalls George R.R. Martin mentioning a "Luke and Leia" situation regarding Jon's parents. Jon and Daenerys have already had their Luke and Leia moment, and then some, by unknowingly boning below a boat deck while Bran realizes that Jon is a trueborn Targaryen (and you know Bran knows about the boat-boning, too).
Whether or not this theory is true (Editor's note: It's not), Jon and Daenerys are related, and we've made our peace with it. Let's not pretend we're above this nonsense.
