UPDATE (11:45 a.m. ET): Updated with statement from Nintendo
Nintendo knows how much you love obsessing over objects of your youth and eroticism of the seathat you will drive yourself crazy trying to find them.
It sent us all into a tizzy last Christmas by bringing back the legendary NES, the retro system featuring 30 games from the original Nintendo Entertainment System. Reports from Eurogamer say that the gaming giant will again send us into a frenzy this holiday season with the logical follow-up, the SNES.
According to Eurogamer, the system is already under production and Nintendo is aiming to launch in time for the 2017 holidays so we can all be disappointed by empty shelves and exorbitant prices on eBay.
SEE ALSO: Nintendo owes its customers an explanation about the NES ClassicAnd what else would you expect? Who among us would not love to spend a Christmas morning ripping through Donkey Kong Countryor the original Super Mario Kart?
There's no confirmation yet on the price or what games would be included but the two listed above plus games like Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and Zelda: A Link to the Pastwould seem like good bets to make the roster.
We reached out to Nintendo of America about the report but were gently told, "We have nothing to announce on this topic."
How long the system will be on shelves is another question. The NES Classic that returned for the holidays was recently discontinued despite its popularity, which seemed to take Nintendo by surprise.
The NES Classic has been very difficult to find in stores and online since its reemergence in November last year. Retailers did not receive enough NES Classics to keep up with the demand and the console has been sold out almost everywhere since day one. This, obviously, has made many people pretty angry.
Not that the search for an SNES Mini will be any less frustrating.
Still, THE ORIGINAL SUPER MARIO KART! Let's do this.
